On repeat (Episode 1)
I love to repeat songs. It enables me to relish it more.
What could’ve been by Sting and Ray Chen

I heard this song from Arcane, the league of legends series. I couldn’t handle tears while watching it. In the third or forth episode, the separation between the sister, Jinx and Vi, is so unfortunate but avoidable, made it so hurtful to watch. The story is so good, it asked multiple moral questions and dramatically showed unconditional sacrifices.
While there were many songs created for this show, what could’ve been giving the most chills. After the final fights, Jinx decided to bazook the city hall, killing the city council that are voting to restore peace between them and the underground city. This song run in the background, initiating dramatic tension and flashbacks on Jinx life.
Jinx did it because Vi chose her friend over her. The pain was flowing through my vein, the broken Jinx that just reunited with her sister, have to feel unaccepted for who she is now, a mad girl. But it is not that simple, the resolution is not by having Vi to accept her. Jinx is a vile person after all. Accepting her for who she is means let her run on her own moral meter, which is none. These types of moral dilemma is the thing that make the series so good. It give us, the watcher, something to feels and be empathetic about.
Why don’t you love who I am?
What we could have been
Outside of the relation with the series, the song itself provides excellent arrangement. Started with simple platonic piano play, and then deep voice of Sting came in, perfectly created a true sense of misery. Cello and violin then come in for the bridges, gave a strong emphasize to the sentences.
In the second verse, cello and violin start to play smoothly in the background. Which then brought us to the solo performance of Ray Chen. This part become the climax of the song, and then the reff of the song was played repeatedly in the middle of the solo.
I hope you know we had everything
When you broke me and left these pieces
I want you to hurt like you hurt me today
I want you to lose like I lose when I play
Then the song closed with the resolution. Regrets.
What could’ve been
Truly a magnificent song.
Berdansalah, Karir ini Tak Ada Artinya by Hindia

This song come from the newest Hindia album. I love Hindia since 2020. I didn’t really hear a lot of indie musician at that time, so Hindia’s lyric that focused on self-issue melancholy rather than romantic sadness felt new to me, and made me sat down and listened.
The new album itself is incredibly creative. While the previous album centered it theme to self issues, the understanding of it, and acceptance on it, this album still do the same but it also explore the current world issue and how the millenials and gen z felt upon it. Such as climate change, unattainable cost of life, privacy, and unpredictable political weather.
In terms of format, Hindia approach it in a very unique way. It includes multiple skits that captures how the oldies and the powerfuls don’t really care about the future of the nation. And emphasize they only care about their own wellbeings.
This song has a special place for me for its embracement of absurdism pov in life. That there is no meaning in life, hence we are the one that need to create it. That chasing careers that off from your heart is not a way to live your life.
I love this song the most because of this specific verse:
Lakukan apa yang kau mau sekarang
do anything you want now
Saat hatimu bergerak jangan kau larang
when your hearts move dont stop it
Hidup ini tak ada artinya
this life have no meaning
Maka kau bebas mengarang maknanya seorang
so you are free to concoct it however you like
The verse is simple. But for me, someone who relate to absurdism, this specific verse give me a reminder to do something I value in every day of my life.

Laufey, damn, I love her. Somehow her song was recommended. and I fall in love directly. Her voice is angelic. Most of her songs are bossa novas with classic touch from orchestra. My small room literally feels like heaven when her song get played.
Her voice is the most special part of her music.
